Beyond the Basics: Improving Your Photography

Ready to improve your skills? This class, taught by fine art photographer/photography instructor Susan Simon, is designed for those who have some understanding of aperture, shutter speed, and IS, and who also have done some editing in Lightroom, Photoshop, or another program. The class will cover intermediate-level shooting and composition and add some editing tips for fine-tuning your post-processing. There will be time for image review and critique and guided post-processing work to enhance your favorite photos. Some discussion and demo of plug-in software will be included.

Students should be prepared to bring their cameras to class 1 and 2, and a laptop with Lightroom, Photoshop, and their photos preloaded to the last three classes.

Susan Simon spent nearly forty years teaching middle school English and American history, most of it in Barnstable. She credits her middle school students (hormones with feet attached) with developing her sense of humor, skill at thinking on her feet, and her ability to refrain from taking herself too seriously. Susan also spent several years as a summer step-on guide for groups touring the Cape and islands and also worked at the Cahoon Museum of American Art. Now retired, she divides her time between substitute teaching at Barnstable High School, photography, and spending time with family, which now include both grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
