Turn that old side table into a masterpiece or that ugly chair into an heirloom! Transform old, unwanted, or unused pieces of furniture into works of art! If you can hold a paintbrush, you can master the techniques taught in this class. You will use acrylic paints to learn a number of basic painting techniques that will turn your piece into a unique expression of your creativity. Please join us to have some fun creating your own piece of fantastic furniture!
Participants are required to bring one sanded and primed piece of furniture—small table, chair, candlestick, frame, jewelry box or any other wooden item of your choosing. Your piece should be structurally sound before you start to paint it. Instructions on sanding and priming your piece and types/sizes of paintbrushes will be provided prior to class. Nancy will provide instruction and a variety of acrylic paints. If you have a specific color palette in mind and have paint you would like to bring, please do so.
Nancy Frary is a retired educator and business owner, and has been painting furniture by hand for almost 20 years. Prior to moving to the Cape, she was the co-owner of Yellow Dog Designs where she created custom work for clients on the North Shore. Currently, she paints for pleasure and also paints for a wonderful non-profit called Painting for a Purpose. Each year, she creates dozens of pieces for the organization's annual auction to benefit Portland Public Schools. Her work has also been featured on posters used to promote the event.
Our classes and workshops are open to students of all abilities and needs. We are currently unable to provide one-on-one instruction, though we will make every attempt to address accommodations for full and successful engagement whenever possible.
If a student requires individual supports, parent/guardian/PCA/teacher/ABA Therapists/etc are welcome to attend.
