South Coyote Buttes

Finding Your Visual Voice, March 2020

This workshop is designed for all artists, at all levels of experience, in all media. It is a three-part workshop consisting of three, two-hour sessions. The objective of this workshop is to help each participant discover their artistic identity and how to incorporate that self-awareness into the art work that they produce.

At some point it simply isn’t enough to accurately render a drawn subject through observation or to make a well exposed, technically well-made and classically-composed photograph. There comes a time when we want to express “ourselves” through our art-work, to go beyond exhibiting proficiency in the medium. Through a series of simple assignments and through interaction with other participants in the workshop and with the instructor, each student will hopefully gain a better understanding of the “self” in artistic expression and will be able to incorporate this knowledge into their art.

Andrew K. Howard, a native Cape Codder, has been making photographs for over forty-five years. “Andy” has been teaching at Wheaton College, in Norton, Massachusetts for the past thirty-nine years where he is a Professor of Art and Co-Chair of the Art and Art History department. He has also worked commercially with clients such as IBM, Tenneco, Crown Plaza-Holiday Inn, Sheraton, Boston Whaler, Cape Dory Yachts, Safety First, and many others, making photographs for advertising and public relations.

Our classes and workshops are open to students of all abilities and needs. We are currently unable to provide one-on-one instruction, though we will make every attempt to address accommodations for full and successful engagement whenever possible.
If a student requires individual supports, parent/guardian/PCA/teacher/ABA Therapists/etc are welcome to attend.
