Flower Painting with Gabriella Melchiorri

The painted floral requires a balance of spontaneity and accuracy, a perfect subject to practice adding energy to all of your paintings. In this 4-day introductory class with artist Gabriella Melchiorri, you will learn about choosing a subject, composition, values, color temperature, simplification, how to start and when to stop. This intro/intermediate-level watercolor painting course serves as a fun introduction to the wonders of painting flowers, working from fresh cut stems and from photos.

Please bring the following materials to class:

  • box of 18 watercolors. Suggested brands: Marie, Reeves, Phoenix.
  • brushes and jar for water
  • graphite pencil and kneaded eraser
  • 9 X 12, 140 pound, cold-pressed pad watercolor paper
  • masking tape

Gabriella Melchiorri is a rising senior at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and has taught art at Highfield Hall & Gardens for the past four years. She has exhibited her paintings at Art Fusion Galleries in Miami Florida which is one of the largest international art galleries in the United States at the age of sixteen. Gabriella was also selected to show her animation at the Museum of Fine Arts Media Arts Annual this year. With her extensive background in painting, Gabriella enjoys creating works that reflect her love of nature and of the abstract. Gabriella has interned at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston where she created studio projects that revolved around the Museum’s collection for all ages. She is hopeful to continue working in art museums once she graduates in 2020.

Our classes and workshops are open to students of all abilities and needs. We are currently unable to provide one-on-one instruction, though we will make every attempt to address accommodations for full and successful engagement whenever possible.
