Inner Path of Photography

What is the inner experience of photography? Deeply felt…rarely discussed…it is a feeling that seduces us and sends us out to shoot again and again.

When we shoot, we’re not just creating a photograph. We’re honoring our souls and having a love affair with the world. And through our images we invite others to share this personal, sacred experience.

Welcome to the “Inner Path of Photography.” I invite you to join me in an exploration of the joy and mysteries of being a photographer; to deepen your connection to that knowing, special part of you that still believes in the wonder of the world; and to help you confidently create the images that express what you feel and truly want to “say.”

Drawing on the tradition of Minor White, techniques and philosophies from psychology, Zen, and other contemplative practices, exploring other artist insights on the creative process, and reflecting on our own images and reasons for being drawn to photography - we’ll connect with inner spirit, honor our awareness, feel, shoot, and create - photographs that reflect what we truly want to “say,” and lives of deeper connection.

In our work together, you’ll be:

  • sharing and learning how to look at photos (your own work and others)
  • reflecting on your own images and reasons for being drawn to photography
  • discussing the words and perspectives of photographers and other creatives over the years
  • learning how the creative process unfolds, recognizing what blocks you, honoring “the flow”
  • practicing the technique of “resonance,” the foundation of your photography practice
  • shooting shooting shooting
  • feeling the joy and pleasure that comes from affirming the value of your photography…and you

Through the dance of Inner Path Photography, you’ll feel more connection with the magic of life, your part in it, and your desire to live and express it. And as you release the limitations you’ve been feeling as a photographer, you’ll open yourself to more happiness, inner power and self-confidence - in your creative work as well as your day to day living.

Heidi Straube, M.Ed., LPC, is a photographer, transformational life counselor, and muse. Visit her website.

Integrating her photography practice with her experience of 30 years in meditative practices, including Zen and yogic traditions, with as many years as a career/life direction counselor, executive coach and contemplative psychotherapist, she helps individuals to create their art and change their lives by honoring the deeper, spiritual self.

Through personal intensives, writing, retreats and workshops (“The Inner Path of Photography” “You are the Artist of Your Life”) Heidi guides individuals in the enjoyment of their creative process, as well as its application to their life path.

Her creative work includes contemplative seascapes, meditative photo poems, photo books of personal transition, and contemporary Japanese scroll hangings using photography, as well as fine art, natural light portraiture.

Heidi has exhibited in the international photography expositions Recontres International de la Photographie, Aix-en-Provence, France, Houston FotoFest, and led a special community celebration of photography in Boca De Chavon, Dominican Republic. Other venues include the Peter T Brown Gallery/Glasscock School at Rice University; Archway Gallery Houston, Flat Bed Press, Austin, Houston Women’s Institute, and the Photography Center of Cape Cod (CCAA) and Creative Arts Center, Chatham, Massachusetts.

Affectionately called “the Nomad” by her friends, Heidi left her base of many years in Houston, Texas fourteen years ago in order to follow her heart and expand her work. Greece and Cyprus began the adventure; since then she has been based alternately between Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico; St. Petersburg, Florida; and Houston, Texas.

Heidi is pleased to be braving her fifth magical winter again this year at First Encounter Beach in beautiful Eastham, Massachusetts, Cape Cod.
