Macro and still life photography both depend on learning to pay attention to details. Whether you use natural light from a window or create your own set up with studio lighting, you can develop your own skills for composing shots where you have control of all of the elements. This class will explore different types of lighting, composition, and backgrounds, and develop your ability to visualize macro and table top shots that surprise the viewer. We will spend the first part of the day in the classroom learning the technical and compositional skills necessary to create macro and tabletop shots. Later in the day we’ll break out the cameras and use objects, produce, flowers, and a variety of lighting to practice the skills learned. Join master photographer and experienced educator, Susan Simon, for an exciting day and develop your vision.
Bring the camera that you like to use, a tripod if you have one, lunch, and your creativity. Come see the world up close and in detail!
Susan Simon spent nearly forty years teaching middle school English and American history, most of it in Barnstable. She credits her middle school students with developing her sense of humor, skill at thinking on her feet, and her ability to refrain from taking herself too seriously. Now primarily a fine art photographer, Susan’s work has been exhibited at the Cape Cod Art Center where she is a juried member, at Cotuit Center for the Arts, the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, The Plymouth Center for the Arts, and at the Griffin Museum of Photography. Her work has also been exhibited at the Cahoon Museum of American Art, and the Moose Hill Audubon Gallery in Sharon.
Our classes and workshops are open to students of all abilities and needs. We are currently unable to provide one-on-one instruction, though we will make every attempt to address accommodations for full and successful engagement whenever possible.
If a student requires individual supports, parent/guardian/PCA/teacher/ABA Therapists/etc are welcome to attend.
