Creating a piece of sculpture or pottery—which is essentially the unlikely transformation of an amorphous blob of clay into an object of beauty—has always seemed a bit magical to me. I worked as a functional potter for many years and recently turned my attention almost exclusively to sculptural works so I could let my imagination run and push the limits further.
This show is a modern-day exploration of the Goddesses of the ancient world, revered in virtually all prehistoric cultures as the creator and sustainer of all life. After more than 20 years working in ceramics, I still take delight in discovering the hidden potential of what the clay and I can do together. It is, in many ways, the simple, joyful satisfaction of making something out of nothing. Magic!
