Stop, Look, & Listen: Poetry with Marjorie Block, Late Fall 2019

Walt Whitman said, “I think I will do nothing for a long time but listen.” Do you ever wish you could stop and simply listen? Together we will stop. We will look and listen to the world around us inside and outside of ourselves. We’ll keep a list of what we see and hear. We’ll play with these ordinary words and use them to write our feelings into poems. A secret: poetry lets you show how you feel without having to tell the whole story. Most importantly I want to say we are not going to grade ourselves in any way! So come and do nothing but listen to each other’s words. Listen to the songs of ourselves.

Marjorie Block is a former English and writing teacher who continues to be active in the Cape’s community of poets and writers. In her book, “Where One Thing Becomes Another,” her poetry attempts to illuminate the ordinary, what we tend not to see. Marjorie lived and worked in New York City and Chicago before settling happily in Dennis on Cape Cod.
