This class was designed for students who have completed my two beginner-level classes, but if you are a relatively new watercolorist with a handle (even a shaky handle) on basic skills such as color mixing, composition and brush skills, this class is for you.
We will be working on reinforcing the skills we’ve learned so far and add some new skills to help make your paintings look even better.
Working with a limited palette will allow us to perfect our color mixing and we will experiment with using our brushes in new and exciting ways.
All our painting will done from life, no photos. We will also learn more about creating a great composition.
Please bring the following materials to the first class—if you already have paints, brushes and a palette, just bring what you have to the first class and we will discuss them at that time.
Materials we will be using (ask for a student discount if you buy locally):
- Cotman watercolors, small tubes
- Cadmium red, medium
- Alizarin crimson
- Ultramarine blue
- Prussian blue
- Raw sienna
- Lemon yellow
- Brushes—I recommend 3 rounds, #6, #12 and a really big one! Wait on the latter until you come to class for a recommendation at a reasonable price.
- Paper—A 9x12” pad of Canson watercolor paper—it should have a blue cover.
- A container for water
- A small white ceramic plate (not plastic) for a palette
- Paper towels
Mary Richmond grew up on Cape Cod and has drawn and painted her way through life. Watercolor is her preferred medium. Today her work can be found on her website or in the many illustrations she does for various publications. She has taught watercolor for many years and loves helping her students make creative breakthroughs in their work. Her teaching style is casual and encouraging.
Our classes and workshops are open to students of all abilities and needs. We are currently unable to provide one-on-one instruction, though we will make every attempt to address accommodations for full and successful engagement whenever possible.
If a student requires individual supports, parent/guardian/PCA/teacher/ABA Therapists/etc are welcome to attend.
