Horace Silver: Jazz Giant
The Cape Jazz Crew
featuring Joe Mongelli, Scott Avidon, Matt Hutchinson, Mike Ryle and Michael Dunford
For many, the years from 1955 to 1965 represent the most compelling era in jazz. Iconic recordings were being made by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Horace Silver and many others too numerous to mention. Their music continues to influence musicians today and represents some of the most beloved, popular and infectious jazz ever recorded.
Previous Jazz Giant concerts by The Cape Jazz Crew featured the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Art Blakey. This year’s Jazz Giant concert pays homage to Horace Silver - one of the most influential jazz composers and pianists of this era
As always, the Cape Jazz Crew goes to great lengths to meticulously recreate the original recordings and arrangements so audiences can experience, once again - or maybe for the first time, this great music.
While the presentation recreates the original recordings, inspired, fresh improvisation is provided by Joe Mongelli, trumpet; Scott Avidon, saxophone; Matt Hutchinson, piano, Michael Dunford, drums; and Michael Ryle upright bass.
Don’t miss this unforgettable evening of Horace Silver music. You’ll hear and be moved by his great compositions, arranged and played as originally recorded.
