2nd Wednesday Theater Presents “Rumble Bumble” at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Cotuit Center for the Arts’ 2nd Wednesday Theater will present a staged reading of “Rumble Bumble,” by Cape Cod writer John Pomeroy on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 PM on the Main Stage.

“Rumble Bumble” will be presented by Matt Kohler and the New Classics Company, well-known for their full-length original plays, festivals, workshops, weekly improv and comedy shows, and their notorious series of “Star Wars” spoofs. The New Classics Company is in its fifth summer in residence at the Guyer Barn in Hyannis, where it has become a vital part of the artistic life of the HyArts Cultural District.

“Rumble Bumble” is a musical, a comedy, and an exploration of Tommy, the start of the smash hit children’s show, “Rumble Bumble.” Though he enjoys his success, Tommy feels that his happy-go-lucky, kid-friendly role limits his possibilities, not just as an actor, but as a man.

Should he stay with the show and endure a possible life sentence of typecasting? Or will he figure out if all his perceived problems are just in his head?

Lucky for Tommy, he has friends to help him, including his puppet co-starts, who—unbeknownst to the world—talk and sing musical numbers with their pal Tommy.

“You just knew there would be singing puppets, didn’t you?” asks Ed O’Toole, who coordinates the 2nd Wednesday productions.

Second Wednesday Theater is a monthly play-reading series of rarely performed classics, undiscovered gems, and exciting new works. Admission is free, and wine is available for $5 a glass.

Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit. For more information, visit artsonthecape.org or call 508-428-0669.
