2nd Wednesday Theater Presents “Mamma Mia” Movie Singalong at Cotuit Center for the Arts
Cotuit Center for the Arts’ 2nd Wednesday Theater presents a “Mamma Mia” movie singalong on Wednesday, September 12, at 7:30 PM. Admission is free.
“You can dance! You can jive! Having the time of your life…,” enthused Ed O’Toole, coordinator of 2nd Wednesday Theater. The Singalong will feature a screening of the hit movie musical starring Meryl Streep and the music of ABBA. There will be onscreen lyrics so that the audience can sing along to “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Waterloo,” and many more.
Based on the Broadway smash hit and filled with catchy ABBA songs, “Mamma Mia!” is an irresistibly charming musical extravaganza. “It’s guaranteed to have you singing and grooving like the Dancing Queen that you know you are,” said O’Toole.
Oscar-winner Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast, including Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, in this musical celebration of mothers, daughters, and fathers, true loves lost, and new ones found. Young Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), daughter of Donna (Streep), sends a letter to three men, inviting them to her wedding–because after reading her mother’s diary, she suspects one of them is her father. But which one?
When all three men (Brosnan, Firth and Stellan Skarsgård) arrive for the wedding at the sun-drenched Greek island where Donna runs a hotel, Donna flips out. She finds the passions she thought she’d laid aside are coming back to life, and she’s going to need the help of her two best gal pals (Christine Baranski and Julie Walters), not to mention a whole bunch of ABBA songs, to help her make it through.
Second Wednesday Theater is a monthly play-reading series of rarely performed classics, undiscovered gems, and exciting new works. Admission is free, and wine is available for $5 a glass.
Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit. For more information, visit artsonthecape.org or call 508-428-0669.
