For those of you unfamiliar with Joe’s Twin Villa, the Osterville hotspot was owned and operated by generations of Joe Diggs’ family (it was named after his grandfather). Although it is now closed, it will long be remembered by its many Cape regulars for its down-home atmosphere, food, drink, and music.

On August 3rd, you can enjoy the spirit of this Cape landmark through a great lineup of bands, singers, dancing and food highlighted by Joe’s exciting artwork. In powerful mixed media works that combine action painting, photography, graffiti and collage, Diggs’ art explores what it means to be a black man in America. “To me painting is magic,” he writes on his website. “The process of making art has helped me emotionally by providing a physical escape. Realizing the importance of celebrating the positive in life, my latest works reflect the more romantic aspect of life of an African American man in his 50s pursuing his dreams”.

Joe will emcee a great lineup of musical guests from around the Cape that will get you on your feet! And don’t worry about dinner, because great, free food will be available.

Celebration Schedule:

- Joe Diggs art on display
- Music by DJ’s who appeared at Joe’s Twin Villa

4-6 pm:
- Summertime food favorites served (beverages available for purchase)

- Artist talk

Our great lineup of musical guests including:

The Upper Gallery will display a juried exhibition, ‘Proud 2 Be American’, featuring the works of local artists as selected by jurors Joe Diggs and Mara Williams, Curator of the Brattleboro Museum, Battleboro, VT.

Cotuit Center for the Arts is also excited to present "Voices of Cotuit", a new program bringing the voices of our artists to our award winning gallery. Patrons will be able to use their smart phones to listen to recordings of current exhibitors discussing the history and inspiration behind their artwork. For this latest exhibit, Joe Diggs shares stories of the legacy of Joe's Twin Villa, and of his previous exhibitions that led to this current series.

Both exhibits run through September 2nd.
