Broadway Backwards at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Cotuit Center for the Arts presents “Broadway Backwards” on Wednesday, August 21, at 8 PM. The show, produced by Tedi Marsh and John Weltman, is a fundraiser for the arts center.

Favorite local performers prove gender doesn’t matter, but love does, as they explore and embrace the great songs of musical theater with a twist: the men sing songs intended for women and vice versa.

“Broadway Backwards” premiered in 2006 as a one-night-only event designed to raise funds for Broadway Cares, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for AIDS-related causes and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The show continues to be presented annually in New York, featuring stars of stage and screen honoring the great songs of musical theater while celebrating the LFBTQ community and creating an environment of equality, awareness, and love.

The Cotuit Production features Jo Brisbane, Hannah Carrita, David Kuehn, Matthew Gould, Celeste Howe, Beau Jackett, Tedi Marsh, Martha Paquin, Jennifer Perrault, Rebecca Riley, Christopher Schultz, Sara Sneed, Alex Valentine, and John Weltman, accompanied by Misao Koyama.

The concert will feature selections from “Hamilton,” “Into the Woods,” “Chicago,” “Grease,” “Wicked,” “Follies,” “Bridges of Madison County,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Drowsy Chaperone,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “My Fair Lady,”and more.

“It’s an amazing evening of music and merriment, providing laughs, but also a fresh perspective on beloved tunes.” said David Kuehn, executive director of the center. “It’s a great opportunity to see some of the Cape’s best vocalists and, at the same time, support the work of the Cotuit Center for the Arts.”

Ticket are $30, $25 for balcony seating. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit artsonthecape.org or call 508-428-0669. Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit.
