Rocker Bruce Marshall returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts with the Bruce Marshall Group on Saturday, February 29, at 7:30 PM.

The Bruce Marshall Group has a well-deserved reputation for their stellar live shows, treating their fans to a soaring ride as they rip through a rich catalog of original material that sets this band apart.

“We love to mix it up,” said Marshall, “slipping seamlessly through the blues, R&B, country blues, and Southern boogie, and building an upbeat sound with dynamics and layering, or playing concise arrangements of our songs.”

“Marshall’s music is excellent, with well-placed original songs. Marshall is a brawling belter,” wrote the Boston Globe. The Middlesex Beat wrote, “The band set the crowd on its feet with a revved-up evening of classic Southern rock, south, country, and swampy rhythm and blues.”

The Bruce Marshall Group has released eight CDs, the most recent of which is “Borrowed Time,” which has been described as “rippling with original blues, swing, and a survivor spirit.” Another reviewer wrote of the title song, “It's songs like this that the term ‘scorching blues’ was conceived to describe. You put the rhythm guys in that real tight place, you create piercing, string bending guitar licks and you belt the hell out the blues vocally and simply put, you've indeed got scorching blues.”

The interplay between Marshall and his longtime guitarist Dave Cournoyer is the heart and soul of the band’s performances. They work together like a well-oiled machine, with their double leads, “tradin’ licks,” and bringing the jam side of the band to the forefront.

The Group is anchored by the rock-solid rhythm section of Pete Premo on drums and Glen DiTomasso on five-string bass. Steve Roberge rounds out the five-piece band on tenor sax, harmonica, and vocals.
