Cotuit Center for the Arts presents The Sound of Music on the Main Stage

Featuring Saturday pre-show craft activities for kids, on the Art Bus

NEW: Announcing an added Sing-Along performance on December 17!

This holiday season, Cotuit Center for the Arts is proud to present one of the most beloved musicals of all time: The Sound of Music! An exuberant young governess in 1938 Austria brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. The Sound of Music will be presented on the Main Stage from Tuesday, November 22 through Sunday, December 18 on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 5:00pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm (no show on Thanksgiving).

Based on The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, the true-life memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, the inspirational story of The Sound of Music follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, The Sound of Music was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," and the title number, this classic tale won the hearts of audiences worldwide. The original 1959 Broadway production earned five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the equally acclaimed 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

On Saturdays, be sure to show up early before the 5pm performance for a fun pre-show craft activity on the Center’s Art Bus…and a visit with Santa! Children are invited to board the Marjorie Lynne Art Bus to create a Sound of Music-inspired craft before the Saturday performances on November 26 and December 3, 10, and 17. Additionally, children may have their cheek or hand painted by artists Kara Andrews (Nov 26) and Jennifer Stratton (Dec 3, 10, and 17), and visit with Santa. Festivities take place pre-show, 3:30-4:30pm, and are included in the ticket price. Can't join us? No worries, craft kits will be available so you may create at home. Contact Malissa Kenney at malissa@cotuitcenterforthearts.org with questions.

In addition, due to popular demand, a new, extra-special matinee show has just been added to this sold-out run. On Saturday, December 17 at 12pm, get ready to belt out your favorite tunes at The Sound of Music: Sing-Along! “♫ These are a few of my favorite things…♪♬” For this performance, we encourage you to sing along to your favorite songs and enjoy being a part of the show. Wear a costume if you like! Tickets for the Sing-Along performance will be available for purchase starting on Friday, November 25.
