Press Release: George Gritzbach Band to Perform at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Aug. 19, 2019 / Press Release
Gritzbach

Cotuit Center for the Arts presents Cape Cod’s longtime favorite roots and blues legend George Gritzbach and his Band on Saturday, 7, at 7:30 PM.

Strongly rooted in roots and rhythm and blues music, and known for his innovative originals and inventive takes on classic tunes, Gritzbach studied under guitar great Rev. Gary Davis early in his career.

Gritzbach has played with such musical legends at B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray, Dr. John, John Lee Hooker, and others in a variety venues: nightclubs, performing arts centers, festivals, and more. Over the years, he has toured the US, Canada, and Europe, and his previous album, “The Sweeper,” was released on labels in Europe.

This concert will feature songs from his soon-to-be released all-original CD, “Roots, Rhythm & Blues.”

Gritzbach is backed by a seasoned rhythm section featuring Scott Lariviere on bass and back-up vocals, Christian McCarthy on drums, Johnny Menezes on keyboards, Peter Murray on saxophones and percussionist Mike Dunford.

The Boston Globe called Gritzbach a “sizzling hot, no-holds barred electric bluesman” and “one of the finest guitar players in America.” Frets Magazine wrote “exquisitely gritty and gravely on one cut, mellow and clear on the next…excellent vocal style.” The Washington Post called him an “exceptional songwriter” and described a recent CD as “as good and surprising as he is in person, with wonderful original material and knock-out slide guitar work.”

Tickets are $30, $25 for balcony seating. There is a $5 discount for members and a $2 discount for seniors. Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit. For more information, visit www.artsonthecape.org or call 508-428-0669.
