Cotuit Center for the Arts presents comedienne Nancy Witter in her new show, “Growing Up McDougal,” on Wednesday, July 25, at 7:30 PM.

“Growing up McDougal” received rave reviews when it opened last September at Don’t Tell Mama in New York, earning a New York City MAC Award nomination. Witter regales her audiences with stories of her unique childhood growing up in a large Irish Catholic family. “I learned early on, thanks to my happy, hopeful, and hung-over parents, how to find the comedy in catastrophes and hope in despair,” said Witter.

Growing up in a “Cathoholic” family and struggling as a working single mother for 20 years gave Witter all the comedic material she needed to sustain her throughout her long-standing comedy career. She finds the humor in everyday life and in the challenges of family relationships. Her shows have been praised as full of wit, wisdom, comedy, and inspiration.

Witter is a nationally renowned, award-winning stand-up comedian, an NYU certified Life Coach, and the author of the book, “Who’s Better than Me? A Guide to Living Happily Ever After.” She performs at comedy venues in New York City and throughout the country. This year she had the honor of performing in the Nantucket Comedy Festival. The New York Times described Witter as having “a razor sharp wit,” and Backstage Magazine named her to their list of "Comedy Best Bets."

Witter has won three New York City MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Awards for “Outstanding Female Comedian” and a MAC Award for her one-woman show “Dignity Check... Please.” She was one of five finalists on Nick at Nite’s “Search for the Funniest Mom in America” in 2005. Soon after, she teamed up with two other finalists, and they toured the country for five years with their hit comedy show “Mama’s Night Out.”

Tickets are $32, $27 for balcony seating. There is a $2 discount for seniors and veterans, and a $5 discount for members.
