The 14th Annual Provincetown Jazz Festival will be held on Thursday, August 9, at 7 PM at The Crown & Anchor in Provincetown and on Monday, August 13, at 7:30 PM at Cotuit Center for the Arts.

The festival, which offers some of the best jazz to be heard anywhere, features the Tim Ray Trio and Daryl Sherman in Cotuit. “We’re excited to be presenting great jazz programs in both Cotuit and Provincetown,” said Bart Weisman, founder and executive producer of the festival. “There are appreciative jazz audiences across the Cape, and we’re pleased to bring outstanding jazz musicians here to play.”

Pianist Tim Ray is best known as the long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett and has appeared on over 75 recordings, including his just-released CD, “Windows,” which was hailed as “an exuberant immersion into a set of classic jazz composition, played with a zestful grace by the Tim Ray Trio” by All About Jazz.

Other members of the trio are John Lockwood on bass and, making his festival debut, Mark Walker on drums. All three are on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music.

Ray has performed with Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Gary Burton, Esperanza Spalding, Phil Woods, Scott Hamilton, the Boston Pops, and many more. He has toured throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including performances at Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Kennedy Center, and appearances on “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” “The Conan O’Brian Show,” “Austin City Limits,” and many other national TV and radio broadcasts. He has been a Steinway artist since 2005.

Singer and pianist Daryl Sherman, who opens the show, has been described as having an “impeccable, delightful, swinging, signature jazz sound, a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and Blossom Dearie” by the New York Times.

Born in Rhode Island, Sherman has been part of the New York City jazz scene since the mid-1970s. In addition to jazz clubs and her renowned 14-year run at the Waldorf-Astoria, where she played Cole Porter’s Steinway, Sherman has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Artie Shaw's '80s band with Dick Johnson, and guested frequently on Marian McPartland's NPR Piano Jazz.

Sherman regularly tours the UK and has also been giving concerts and master classes in Japan, Berlin and Holland. She has performed and recorded with: Dave McKenna, Bucky & John Pizzarelli, Ruby Braff, Ken Peplowski, Howard Alden, her dad, trombonist/bandleader Sammy Sherman, and many more.

Daryl will be accompanied by Cape Cod jazz musicians Bruce Abbott on sax, Ron Ormsby on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums.

Tickets are $30. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit artsonthecape.org, or call 508-428-0069. Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit.
